HANDY CLEANING HINTS
 

Wash clothes in cold water when ever possible - heating the water uses most of the energy.


CLEANING FLOORS: Use a broom instead of a vacuum cleaner whenever you can to save on power bills.

Clean your chopping board - don't throw it away

Plastic chopping boards - use bleach in water in a plastic tub (not metal sink) Hold in water for 1 hour by placing a heavy container on top (not metal) Remove and scrub all stains away.

Wooden chopping boards - scrub in soapy warm water and dry. Rub in salt and leave to kill germs for 15 minutes. Rinse and dry.

Removing common stains dog poo, red wine, mould, pollen, cat urine, candle wax.

DISHWASHER MACHINE:
Use powder and use half the amount of dishwasher detergent recommended unless washing lots of really greasy pans.

As a rinsing agent, add 1 1/2 cups of straight white vinegar to the rinse compartment to leave your dishes shiny and streak free.


Remove mineral deposits by running a cup of vinegar through a wash cycle with an empty dishwasher.
FRIDGES:
To clean fridge use a mxture of baking soda and water.
To prevent mould or remove mould in your fridge, washed it with hot soapy water then wipe it with white vinegar. 

Clean the condenser coils of the fridge using a vacuum cleaner and the small attachment.
To clean rust stains off a stainless steel sink scrub the area with a lemon.

Your Home Cleaning Kit should contain :

  • white vinegar - a small bottle
  • bicarb soda
  • an old tooth brush
  • a bucket with a plastic handle
  • cleaning cloths of your choice
